Wednesday Nights: An Upper Room Community

From Wednesday 23rd June through to 25th August we are bringing CLC all back together – we’re bringing it all back home, church unplugged.  Stripping us back to God, to friendship, to simple church beyond programmes, to food, eating together, family, prayer, creativity, discovering, soaking in God, the scripture, reaching out…simply being and doing church together! This will be in place of our existing cell meetings.

5.30pm-7.30pm : Food
7.45pm- 9.30pm : church unplugged.

It’s going to be like the upper room community of Acts 1 and 2 out of which we’re anticipating three things:

1) Encounters with God
Over the Wednesday nights we will be giving time and space for meeting with God together. We are going to go free-style and respond to what God is saying and doing among us, being open to the Holy Spirit. Trusted leaders in our community will safely host each evening. We will be using a variety of rooms, small groups, all together, and the garden. It’s going to be real, at times we’ll just be quiet before God, at times expressive, there’s going to be healing, reflection; sometimes it’ll be passionate and sometimes uncontainable, at times we’ll be looking into specific subjects or scriptures together. Bottom line we’re going to be open to what God wants to do among us. It’s going to be fun and life changing! God’s wanting to meet with us again.

2) Creating family and community together
Each Wednesday night we’ll start with food from 5.30pm-7.30pm. Bring the whole family, come straight from work. They’ll be garden games and space to relax together. The second part of the evening will kick off at about 7.45pm and finish by 9.30pm. Some weeks we’ll have some pub nights when we’ll meet up for just drinks at 8pm. See the diary for details.

3) Reaching out
This summer we are going to focus on being out there and sharing our faith and community:
- Getting into the truth that we are all missionaries.
- Growing our community beyond ourselves. This summer I want us to break the barriers down, and not only reaching out to each other in a new way, but also bringing and mixing our friends together. Exciting ideas are forming for our July Adventure Sundays when we can come along together with friends.
- Getting ready for students. We are praying and planning for re-connecting with undergraduates.

So, the doors are open, please come over!

Looking ahead, this summer is going to be formational for the autumn and beyond.   It's time to set sail again. Let’s be open to what God is going to shape and form among us.

Can I just say I'm loving the upper room community, and am newly excited about church and what it can be! I'm loving the re-connections with people, the testimonies, and the real sense of a community knitting itself more strongly together whilst at once looking outwards to those positioned around it. Thanks for those who are working hard to make it happen.

I don't go to pubs very often, but if CLC is there tomorrow, then it gets me thinking about Jesus being "friends of Pub-licians and sinners". Come along! I dare you to pray with someone IN THE PUB! God IS moving.

Delicious bolognese (never knew it could involve bacon!), tax advice, formative time with God and hearing church pray like I haven't heard us pray in a while.

I like it!
