Computer Programming
Joar Vatnaland is a computer programmer at a company called Accelrys on the Cambridge Science Park.
So what's that all about?
The company makes software for the life sciences.
Describe your typical day.
I come in at maybe 8:15 (an hour earlier than I used to, but it looks this new habit is going to stick...), catch up on the days news and start working. There will often be a couple of meetings during the day, and in between I'm trying to solve the diverse problems I'm facing. During lunchtime I run one circle around the park - another good habit I've picked up lately, so that the CLC football matches don't kill me.
Is it easy to connect with people?
I usually interact with 5-6 people during the day. I could do a lot more, so here's room for improvement. There are a couple of people I know are Christians, and some others where I just suspect it.
What are the hardest pressures?
My biggest problem is that I always want to solve any problem exclusively on my own, which means I'm often using more time than strictly necessary, which means that I fall behind, which means I'm constantly trying to catch up, which means I get tired and make mistakes, which gives me more problems to solve.....
What are the biggest challenges and blessings as a Christian?
To actually be a witness to colleagues. The biggest blessing is that I can ask God to help me perform a good job.
What do you see as the mission through your work?
Be a light that other people might get attracted to.
How can we best pray for you?
That Jesus is visible through me. |
